Facilitator, Karin Whittaker
What to expect at Karin’s? Cuddle Party is a fun and practical workshop about socializing and platonic touch (think engaging in conversation while shoulder massaging, sharing hugs and sitting-huggles, spooning). One decides with whom and how to cuddle, including to option to not cuddle at all but to simply socialize (no cellphones) and relax. Some people are comfortable with touch, right away. Others may attend one or two events before ready for a hug or cuddle. Whatever your own reasons, Cuddle Party is a great playground for being true to oneself and connecting with other cuddly souls.
Curious? There’s more . .
In the first forty minutes participants are led through a series of playful exercises by a CP certified facilitator which allow for getting acquainted, practicing clear communication skills, and to learn the Rules of Cuddling (for e.g., You must ask and receive a verbal YES before touching anyone. Or tears and laughter are both welcome). For the next couple of hours attendees may practice the skills just learned, negotiate cuddles or simply chit-chat, journal, relax. There’s no cuddle or social expectation, just a willingness to self-discover.
About your Organizer:
Karin Whittaker is an Early Childhood Educator by profession. And now, a Certified Cuddle Party facilitator with the International Cuddle Party Organization (this certification process involved nine, three hour SKYPE sessions and cost $1,500 US). So how did she get started on this Cuddle Party venture? On a six month sabbatical from teaching 3-5 year olds, her adult daughter traveling overseas, and she and her boyfriend on a break – she noticed an inner uneasiness and her ‘skip in her walk’ diminished. Intuitively, she knew a lack of day-to-day physical closeness was the common denominator. Minus children, daughter, boyfriend — was a hug-free, snuggle-free, massage-free — desert. Awkwardly, seeking out extended hug ‘n’ snuggle time with peers her calm and bounce returned. Thinking others too, may also be caught in this ‘affection void’ needing regular tangible touch, a friend mentioned a newscast on Cuddle Party. Vancouver CP being on hiatus at the time, she ventured, taking part in Victoria Cuddle Party and was so elated by the experience that becoming CP certified and seeing Vancouver Cuddle Party up and running has been her mission. She’s here twice each, Sunday’s/Saturday’s monthly to support friendship and consensual touch. Mostly, she looks forward to meeting others and sharing in this this amazing — Cuddle Party experience.
